As a new student at the University of Phoenix, I am excited about the challenges and learning experiences ahead of me. More specifically, I am excited about developing the skills necessary to become a better leader. I love being a teacher, and I want to learn new ways to positively impact both my students and my co-workers.
I expect that this class, Personal Leadership, will help me develop confidence as a leader. I believe that I possess these qualities, but I hope that this class will help me develop them further. Additionally, I hope that this class teaches me ways to lead others in a positive way. As a future teacher-leader, I want to work with other teachers, not against them. I am hoping this class teaches me how to be the type of leader others respect and admire.
I strongly believe that this course will help me become not only a better leader of others, but of myself as well. In order to successfully lead a group, I must know how to successfully lead myself. I am excited about the growth I will experience throughout the duration of this class and my selected program at University of Phoenix.
"I want to work with other teachers, not against them."
ReplyDeleteI wish this was the philosophy of all leaders. Too many leaders today are still dictators and intimidators. I'm lucky now because I have an administrator who believes in technology. My kids are allowed to use their phones in class for all sorts of science. I have a colleague who is not allowed to let the kids use the phones. Her administrator has stripped her of a whole host of methods that really enable the kids to learn. He is denifitely not working with her.

"I love teaching"
ReplyDeleteThat is a phrase that is not heard enough in the public schools systems. Loving your job, should be enough to make all educators want to impact the lives of the students. There are so many children that just need someone to give them a reason to attempt classwork, other than, "because I said so". The posts in the main forum of this leadership class, shows that this nation has many ineffective leaders in postions they should not have. The principal at my current school does not alter the methods to which the math teachers teach. I have been lucky, because the reading teachers are always upset because the Assistant Principal wants to tell them how to teach their lessons. Most educators know each teacher has his or her own teaching style. The education system needs more teamleaders. There are enough dictators in the world and the education system is not the place for the dictator leadership.
